Former Graduate Students
|
Megan Burns
Megan Burns got her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from UNO. She joined the lab in the Spring of 2021 worked on the impacts of pesticides on crayfish and snail behavior. She presented her work at the Benthic Ecology Meeting and ANS day where she won an award for the best graduate student presentation. She now works on marine crabs in Alaska.
Jason Ray
Jason worked with Dr. Hill on the impacts of pesticides on marsh trophic cascades. He is now in vet school at LSU.

Nathan Hammond
Nathan was a non-thesis a graduate student who assisted in development of behavioral protocols examining blue crab responses to pesticides.
As an undergraduate Nathan worked on a project examining how nutrient enrichment methodology influences above vs. belowground production and plant allometry in Spartina alterniflora. He presented his research at the Benthic Ecology Meeting in Myrtle Beach, SC in April 2016.

Former Undergraduates
Caitlyn Fontenot
Caitlyn was an intern in the LUMCON/LA Tech coastal undergraduate internship program and joined the lab shortly after. She assisted on experiments examining the impact of pesticides on animal behavior and aquatic communities. She is currently pursuing her Masters degree at the University of Southern Mississippi working on oysters.
Annabeth Rawls
Annabeth Rawls was a senior Environmental Science major and started working in the lab in the Spring of 2020 because she really really wanted to analyze behaviors in crab videos. She has watched a bazillion videos documenting crab behavioral responses to pesticides and assisted in other experiments investigating the impacts of pesticides on animal behavior and aquatic communities. She presented her work at both state and national meetings and won several awards including 3rd place poster at the Benthic Ecology Meeting and an abstract award at the Louisiana American Fisheries Society Meeting
Adam Gonzalez
Adam was an environmental science major and joined the lab in the Spring of 2021. He investigated the impacts of salinity pulses on the growth and survival of invasive water hyacinth. He presented his research at the LA Tech Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Alizia Barnes
Alizia assisted on several projects in the lab including an independent research project examining the impacts of copper on periwinkle behavior. Alizia published a manuscript on her work and completed a Masters with Anna Armitage at Texas A&M University.
Taylor Clement
Taylor worked on experiments assessing how Littoraria foraging and predator avoidance responses are affected by pesticides. Taylor presented her work at the Gulf Estuarine Research Society Meeting and ANS day where she won an award for her poster presentation. Taylor went to graduate school at LSU and now works for LDWF.
Stephanie Plaisance and Marianna Penny
Stephanie and Marianna assisted with processing of Spartina belowground samples from an experiment examining the impact of enrichment on Spartina alterniflora. Stephanie and Marianna presented their work at ANS day. Stephanie became a research assistant in Brian Robert's lab at LUMCON and is now pursuing her Master's at Nichols University.
Allen Schaefer
Allen helped lead experiments on the behavioral responses of blue crabs to pesticide exposure. Allen presented his work at the Gulf Estuarine Research Society where he won an award for his poster presentation.

Former interns
Colton West and David Hinkie
Colton and David were interns in the 2020 LUMCON/LA Tech Coastal Internship program. Although they didn't get to go to LUMCON for the 2020 season due to the pandemic, they performed lab experiments at LA Tech examining the impacts of water hyacinth on blue crab behavior.

Brittany Hutton and Katheryn Steffins
Brittany and Katheryn worked as interns for the LUMCON/LA Tech coastal internship program (2019). In their project, they examined the impacts of invasive water hyacinth on the nekton community and killifish predation risk. They have recently submitted a paper on their results. Brittany and Katheryn have both applied to vet school.

Olivia Caretti
Olivia worked as an intern under Dr. Hill at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on the impacts of exotic Asian tiger shrimp on native shrimp species in the fall of 2014. She is also a co-author on a tiger shrimp paper. Olivia is now pursuing a Masters degree at NC State.
Brian Klimek
Brian worked as a technician on the tiger shrimp project in 2017. He led the effort to find out whether red drum deferentially consume native shrimp over exotic tiger shrimp. Brian is presenting his work on the project at the American Fisheries Society Meeting in Florida.
